The museum showcases a range of seafaring, coastal, naval and cultural themes with artefacts, exhibitions and guided tours. This must-see attraction includes the opportunity to board a naval submarine and a replica 18th century tall ship.
Permanent exhibitions include:
Navigators – tracking the successive waves of sailors and settlers who have navigated the Australian shores over thousands of years;
Eora First People – exploring the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander’s deep connection with the sea;
Watermarks – exploring the Australian coastal culture’s love of water;
Navy – how the Royal Australian Navy operates on the land, in the air and under the sea during peace and war;
Passengers – the journeys of those who have travelled to Australia by sea.
Open daily, 9.30am to 5pm (6pm in January), the museum is in Darling Harbour, a short walk from Town Hall Station. There are ferries from Circular Quay. You can also take the light rail from Central Station to Pyrmont Bay.
