About the Mudgee region

Mudgee is an elegant and historic country town, set in the scenic, natural setting of the Cudgegong Valley, northwest of Sydney in country NSW. Fertile farmlands in the region grow delicious fresh produce available at cafés and restaurants in town, and at farm gates and gourmet food outlets.

With a continuous history of winemaking since the 1850s, Mudgee is popular with wine enthusiasts. Choose from over 40 cellar doors. The rich pastoral history is reflected in Mudgee’s heritage streetscapes which are wide and tree-lined, perfect for walking and cycling.

Mudgee’s temperate climate allows for the slow ripening of grapes, producing red wines of intensity, depth and flavour. The region produces great chardonnay and has a reputation for crafting cabernet sauvignon and shiraz of impeccable character.

Time your trip to coincide with the Mudgee Fine Foods Farmers Markets, held in the picturesque grounds of St Mary’s Church every third Saturday of the month. Other things to do include gazing up at the night skies at the Mudgee Observatory.

You can also explore the western edges of Wollemi National Park, home to the Wollemi pine, one of the world's oldest and rarest plants and nicknamed the dinosaur tree.

Mudgee is 90 minutes’ drive from Dubbo, home of the Taronga Western Plains Zoo. From Sydney, the drive to Mudgee is about 3h 30 min.
