Port Macquarie
About the Port Macquarie region
Port Macquarie is a vibrant coastal city at the heart of a beautiful region teeming with outdoor adventures, gorgeous beaches, delicious fresh produce including oysters, and delightful walks. One of the most popular attractions is the Koala Hospital, which cares for sick and injured koalas. You can visit the hospital every day of the year and a tour is conducted daily at 3pm.
The city is a great base for exploring the region’s enchanting national parks, beautiful waterways such as the Hastings River, 18 sandy beaches and ocean. Enjoy the natural beauty with outdoor activities, including skydiving, paragliding, horseriding, surfing, boating, cycling, water skiing, kayaking, golf and fishing.
A temperate climate, Port Macquarie’s parks, gardens and trails make it a charming place for walks. The 9km Coastal Walk is an exhilarating way to uncover this pretty area. Another way is on the water, on a cruise to see dolphins and whales.
As the second most easterly point in NSW, Port Macquarie is an excellent location for whale watching between May and November. In Camden Haven walk through Kattang Nature Reserve to Perpendicular Point and spot the passing whales.
With whales this close to the coastline, cruise operators are able to reduce the travel time getting to the whales so you can spend more time with them for an unforgettable experience, especially when they’re breaching and tail slapping.
Taste fresh local produce, including cheeses and oysters, in Port Macquarie's many gourmet cafés and quality restaurants. You’ll find plenty of places to stay in the area, and the Hastings River wine region features clusters of vineyards and cellar doors.
