Sydney East
Swim between the red and yellow flags at Bondi Beach. Perched at the southern end with wonderful views is Bondi Icebergs Club, where visitors are welcome. Major sporting events are held at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium in Moore Park.
In the east you’ll also discover pretty bays, such as Rose Bay, with sweeping harbour views. Double Bay designer Jan Logan creates jewellery for the rich and famous. You can hire a yacht and skipper from EastSail in Rushcutters Bay and explore the harbour from the water.

Bondi Beach is one of Australia’s top destinations. The crescent-shaped stretch of white sand and rolling waves epitomise the laidback beach culture for which the country is famous.
Trains from Town Hall in the city centre go via Kings Cross to Bondi Junction, where there are buses to the beach. Or ride on a ferry from Circular Quay to pretty Watsons Bay and from there get on a bus to Bondi.
You’ll find plenty of things to do at the beach, where surf lifeguards have worn their distinctive red and yellow caps since 1907. Learn to surf with Lets Go Surfing or enjoy fresh air and ocean views along the Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk.
On Campbell Parade, the promenade which backs the beach, and in nearby streets, you’ll find numerous cafés and restaurants. The Bondi Markets on Sundays are popular for gifts, flowers and food.
Beyond Bondi explore other attractions in Sydney’s eastern neighbourhoods. Watsons Bay is Australia’s oldest fishing village - you’ll find great seafood at Doyles on the Beach, Doyles on the Wharf and the Beach Club at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel.
Travel by bus to Double Bay and Paddington’s Oxford Street for shopping and markets. In Paddington you’ll see many elegantly restored Victorian terraces. Affluent neighbourhoods on Sydney Harbour, such as Vaucluse and Point Piper, have some of Australia’s most expensive homes.
A short walk from Oxford Street is the Centennial Parklands, home to a beautiful green oasis and the Sydney Cricket Ground and the Allianz Stadium. From the stadiums it’s a short ride on a public transport to Royal Randwick Racecourse for all the colour and glamour of horseracing.
